Maxim's vital signs monitoring service Fit, providing continuous, real-time medical diagnostic data

Maxim Integrated teamed up with Clearbridge VitalSigns and Orbital Research to develop a highly integrated remote diagnostics, physical assessment (Fit) reference design that provides convenient patient monitoring services and reduced healthcare costs.

San Jose, CA. September 20, 2012. Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces a new type of physical monitoring device that enables healthcare professionals to monitor patients' physiques at low cost and provide more effective preventive health care. The highly integrated monitoring suit is designed to measure three-lead ECG, body temperature and motion. All diagnostic tools are integrated into the inside of the shirt without compromising wearing comfort.

The new "Fit" integrates dry-electrode ECG measurement technology, complex signal processing technology, temperature sensors, motion sensors, ultra-low-power microcontrollers and wireless communication units. It is the experience of Maxim Integrated, Clearbridge VitalSigns and Orbital Research. The result of active cooperation at the level of technology and innovation. This caregiver opens up a new era of preventive health care, reducing health care costs by more than 10 times.

Maxim's main contribution

The ultra-low-power MAXQ622 microcontroller makes it easy to connect multiple devices and is easy to program.

The MAX8671 power management IC provides a low-noise power supply that effectively switches between multiple sensors.

· The MAX6656 ultra-low-power temperature sensor supports plug-and-play system integration.

· The MAX3204USB protector provides security protection against vibration and ESD damage.

Key Contributions of Clearbridge VitalSigns

· Ultra-low power, multi-channel CBVS1202 on-chip ECG for long-term three-lead ECG data acquisition.

Clearbridge VitalSigns' advanced motion noise suppression algorithm effectively separates ECG signals and noise, solving the mechanical structural challenges of meeting the comfort requirements of different body types while ensuring optimal electrode position and high quality signals.

· Clearbridge VitalSigns' innovative three-lead ultra-thin CardioLeaf® home design.

· Fully integrated GUI applications for desktop and mobile devices.

Major contributions from Orbital Research

· Patented and approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) dry electrodes capture all details of the ECG waveform without compromising the comfort of the garment. The dry electrode does not require skin preparation or adhesive solution, and can obtain a continuous clinical ECG signal for a long time.

Industry evaluation:

· “The market for wearable monitoring devices will reach an annual average of more than 100 million units by 2016. These devices will provide detailed information on tracking, monitoring and health care –* usually connected via mobile phones.” ABI Research, August 17, 2011, Devices-to-top-100-milli.

· Maxim Senior Vice President Chris Neil commented: "Maxim is building business partnerships with companies including Clearbridge VitalSigns and Orbital Research to introduce new integrated solutions with advanced medical technology."

· Clearbridge VitalSigns Managing Director Johnson Chen commented: "Clearbridge VitalSigns is committed to using the proprietary integrated biomedical chip design to build the next generation of ultra-thin, ultra-light, ultra-comfortable, long-term use for monitoring vitals. We are happy to This project is working with Maxim."
