Avago Technologies has announced a new line of optical encoders that can operate over extended temperature ranges to meet a variety of applications requiring lower resolution. Avago's AEDS-9240 optical encoder series is ideal for use with brushless DC motors such as industrial grade presses, textile machinery, industrial and factory automation equipment, and applications such as plotters and tape drives.In the market, there is a growing need to drive electronic circuits and motor control to reduce production costs, improve efficiency, and equipment reliability. It has also led to the widespread adoption of brushless DC motors in servo motor applications. AEDS-9240 Optical Encoder Series This is achieved by giving the design engineer the ability to bring advanced motor control detection while incorporating an incremental encoder module equivalent to the commutation output provided by the Hall switch.
Avago's AEDS-9240 six-channel incremental optical encoder module is designed with two channels of quadrature output and a third channel of no gated index output. It uses an optical encoder wheel with an optical radius of 19.00 mm (0.748 in.) to get 360. Or 720 CPR (Cycle Per Revolution) outputs, the un-gated index output is a forward index pulse that can be generated every revolution of the encoder wheel. Each module contains a lens LED in a miniaturized plastic package. The combination of the light source and the test chip, in addition, the encoder module also integrates a highly aligned light source and a unique array of light detectors, giving the AEDS-9240 excellent mounting tolerance.
