Mouser Electronics has started supplying the MAX14836, a 24V dual-output sensor transceiver from Maxim Integrated. This new device is designed to drive two sensors with independent 24V outputs and offers flexible configuration options, including push-pull, high-side, or low-side operation for each output. The MAX14836 also includes comprehensive fault detection and reporting capabilities, making it ideal for industrial applications that require reliable sensor monitoring.
The transceiver communicates with a microcontroller via an SPI interface, allowing for easy configuration and real-time monitoring of both the MAX14836 and connected sensors. The DIO driver can handle up to 3μF loads, while the DO driver supports up to 2μF. Additionally, programmable slew rate control helps minimize electromagnetic interference, ensuring stable and efficient performance in demanding environments.
Inside the MAX14836, there are two on-chip linear regulators that provide 5V and 3.3V outputs. The 5V regulator can supply up to 30mA of current, while the 3.3V regulator can deliver up to 20mA. The 5V regulator powers internal analog and digital functions when not used as a voltage source. For added reliability, the output drivers automatically shut down if either voltage regulator or the chip voltage drops below a predefined threshold.
The device also includes advanced fault detection features such as short-circuit protection for both DIO and DO drivers (with response times of 650μs and 440μs respectively), reverse polarity protection, undervoltage detection, overtemperature warnings, and thermal shutdown. These features ensure safe and consistent operation even under adverse conditions.
