Maxim's new MAX14836 dual sensor transceiver

Mouser Electronics has now started supplying the MAX14836, a 24V dual-output sensor transceiver from Maxim Integrated. This latest device is designed to drive two sensors with independent 24V outputs and offers flexible configuration options such as push-pull, high-side, or low-side operation. The MAX14836 includes advanced fault detection and reporting capabilities, along with two on-chip linear regulators for stable power management. The transceiver enables communication between two sensors and a target microcontroller through an SPI interface, allowing for easy configuration and real-time monitoring of both the MAX14836 and connected sensors. The DIO driver can handle a 3μF load, while the DO driver supports up to 2μF. Additionally, programmable slew rate control helps reduce electromagnetic interference, making it ideal for sensitive industrial environments. In terms of power management, the MAX14836 features two built-in linear regulators that generate 5V and 3.3V outputs. The 5V regulator can supply up to 30mA of current, while the 3.3V regulator provides up to 20mA. The 5V regulator also powers internal analog and digital functions when not used as a voltage source. For added reliability, the output drivers will automatically shut down if either voltage regulator or the chip voltage falls below a pre-set threshold. The device is equipped with a comprehensive set of fault detection mechanisms, including short-circuit protection for both DIO and DO drivers (650μs and 440μs respectively), reverse polarity protection, undervoltage detection, overtemperature warnings, and thermal shutdown.
