OptiLED Lamps Illuminate Jacksonville's Main Street Bridge for 2005 Super Bowl Celebration

January 31, 2005... IRVINE, California USA ? The centerpiece of Jacksonville?s Super Bowl festivities is sporting state-of-the-art light emitting diode (LED) illumination technology as part of a city-wide beautification effort in anticipation and Celebration of the Super Bowl championship to be played at the Alltell Stadium Feb. 6. The Main Street Bridge is currently lit 24 hours a day by OptiLED?s Linear Optical Array LED lamps, chosen for their high brightness, transform the bridge into an eye -catching focal point for the visiting media and fans.

Based on their successful track record working with linear LED products, award-winning lighting design firm Stone Mountain Lighting Group was subcontracted by Miller Electric to integrate, install and program the lights on the bridge with almost 1,200 feet of OptiLED?s Linear Optical Array LED Lights, which were assembled together to form an impressive LED matrix for various graphics and designs.

The project is a joint effort between the JTA, the City of Jacksonville, the Florida Department of Transportation and the First Coast Metropolitan Planning Organization. Spanning 1,680 feet over the St. Johns River, the massive Main Street Bridge, which was completed in 1939, Carrying traffic traveling on US Rte. 1 and has become a landmark in downtown Jacksonville. Made of 11 steel stringer spans and three Warren through trusses, the continuous truss vertical lift span at the center is the longest in Florida. The individual lights work similar to Pixels on a video screen and show various pre-programmed lighting effects, such as a unique design featuring the team colors of the Super Bowl winner on Sunday night at the completion of the game.

The OptiLED lamps were selected because of the high brightness of the optically enhanced LEDs, their durability to with the outdoor elements, and their consumption of 85 percent less electricity than conventional lights. OptiLED designs and develops LED lamps that combine high precision optics with advanced electronic And innovative product design to produce the brightest and most efficient LED lighting products on the market.

We're trying to create an experience,? said Robert Daffin, President and CEO for Stone Mountain Lighting Group of Atlanta. ?We chose the OptiLED luminaires because they are line voltage and don?t need remote power supplies, making the installation more Since the bridge is a vintage structure, we had to be careful with the amount of extraneous hardware that would need to be attached to it. Plus the optics in the lights provided us with the ideal viewing angle and distribution.

OptiLED?s Linear Optical Array uses a LPI-tailored optical system for pure color mixing with improved uniformity, which results in higher brightness and sharper images. The lamp?s micro-diffuser optic option allows different viewing angles with low loss of light while the The built-in switched-mode power supply improves the data transmission as it avoids the power fluctuations that interfere with data. If one unit goes out, the others in the serial data path will continue to function , making it easier to spot a faulty unit in a long segment.

From home interior to art installations, backyard gardens to city parks, museums to theatre backdrops, OptiLED lighting products have a huge impact on the world?s use of LED technology. Other current OptiLED installations include the International Spy Museum, CNN Studios in Atlanta, The Houston Ballet, and DollyWorld USA in Tennessee.
