Smart Home Channel Retail Experience Sharing (4): Alien Alliance & Telemarketing Feedback

In the previous article, "Channel Retail Market Experience Sharing (3)," I discussed the key selling points and highlights of integrating smart home technology with interior design. I also mentioned that home renovation is a low-frequency, high-involvement project, and transitioning it into a smart environment requires the right partners. The question now is: who are the best collaborators for smart home benchmarking, and how can we effectively drive customer traffic? In this post, we'll explore these topics by analyzing industry alliances and telemarketing feedback as starting points.

I. Smart Home Alien Alliance Partners

Let’s take a closer look at the top 10 potential partners in the smart home space:

  • Electric curtains and sunshades
  • Stone products
  • Heating systems
  • Central air conditioning
  • Fresh air systems
  • Audio-visual systems
  • High-end doors and windows
  • Smart door locks
  • High-end door manufacturers
  • Custom whole-house furniture

These industries can form powerful alliances, allowing for shared customer experiences, joint promotions, and bundled sales. For example, a warm air system might come with a smart living room setup, or a high-end door purchase could include a smart lock. These partnerships help create a more seamless and attractive smart home experience for consumers.

II. Market Feedback from Telemarketing Efforts

Telemarketing has long been an important channel for introducing smart homes to customers. Back in 2007, when I first started working in smart home technology, people often confused us with furniture sellers. However, over time, interest grew, especially after Google acquired NEST in 2014, which helped raise public awareness of smart home concepts.

During a telemarketing campaign in August and September 2017, I spoke with over 2,700 homeowners. The results were revealing: about 46.2% of them had already adopted some smart home devices, such as smart curtains, door locks, security systems, and audio-visual controls. Despite growing interest, many still faced challenges in choosing the right products or understanding how to integrate them into their homes.

One memorable interaction was with a taxi driver in Luoyang. When I told him I worked in smart homes, he asked if you could control your AC remotely. He was genuinely excited about the idea of coming home to a cool house in summer or a warm one in winter. This showed that the concept of smart homes was becoming more mainstream.

III. The Future of Smart Homes Looks Bright

The future of smart homes is promising. Imagine coming home after work, and your AI system automatically opens the door, turns on the shower, adjusts the air conditioning, and lights up the room—all without any manual input. This level of integration will require not just hardware but also advanced AI systems capable of learning and adapting to user behavior.

While voice control and smart speakers are already popular, more complex applications—like full-home automation—require stronger consumer education and better IoT infrastructure. It's clear that smart homes are more than just replacing remote controls; they represent a new way of living that will take time to fully realize.

For companies to succeed in this space, they must remain committed and optimistic, as gaining investor support is crucial for long-term growth. Only through continuous innovation and collaboration can the smart home industry truly thrive.

Smart home is the foundation of the broader Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem. The future is bright, and a smarter, more connected life is just around the corner.
