Universal Acquires Laser Radar Company Strobe Accelerates Autonomous Vehicle R&D

GM is acquiring a small company that is developing a lidar sensor for autonomous vehicles. GM said it will speed up the deployment of autonomous driving technology.

Strobe will collaborate with General Motors’ Cruise Automation team in San Francisco to develop the next generation of Lidar sensors called Lidar.

General Motors stated that Strobe technology will reduce the cost of vehicle R&D while accelerating large-scale deployment. But General Motors did not say when the technology was ready to carry passengers.
