When everyone agrees that they should be together in a strange land: Spreadtrum and RDA, because of the small calculations of parents (local governments) of both parties, Intel and Rockchip’s transnational love is not just an investment beyond rumor. But it was deep together.
Just as a well-known analyst @ Sun Changxu, one of the industry’s leading analysts, guessed a month ago that according to Intel’s press release, Intel will authorize the x86 architecture and 3G modem technology to be licensed to rockchip, and the two sides will jointly develop a quad-core single chip for the middle and low-end Android tablet market. The plan, which is expected to be launched in the first half of 2015, will be incorporated into Intel's single-chip SoFIA family and will be promoted to both customers.
Although there is no clear statement in the press release whether Intel is investing in Rockchip, I guess it should be. And although cooperation only speaks of Android tablets, I think this is only the first step. If it goes well, smart phones in the future will continue to be a common pain for Rockchip and Intel.
It can be seen that in this cooperation, Intel provides technology, production capacity and financial support. Rockchip focuses on product definition planning, Turnkey solutions and customer service. It should be said that this is a win-win cooperation in strategy. It is a large-scale cooperation that adds grounding gas, technology, and the market. It may affect the future pattern of flat-panel or even mobile-phone processor market. It may become the European and American past nobles + China. A model of aspiring youth cooperation.
