A new process approach that transcends the fine-grained components "RASMID? Series"

In 2011, ROHM introduced the world's smallest resistor (0.3mm × 0.15mm), surpassing the previous micronization limit of 0402 (0.4mm × 0.2mm). The following year, they launched the world’s smallest semiconductor — a Zener diode (0.4mm × 0.2mm), further solidifying their leadership in miniaturization. This time, ROHM expanded its product lineup with the introduction of the 0402 Schottky Barrier Diode (SBD) and is preparing for mass production of the 03015 chip resistors. These components are part of the RASMID™ series, which features the world’s smallest components with remarkable dimensional accuracy (±10μm). The RASMID™ series represents a new generation of smart micro-devices, developed using innovative processes that differ from traditional methods. These products are designed to support the ongoing trend of device miniaturization while maintaining high performance and reliability. Looking ahead, ROHM will continue to invest in research and development, focusing on technologies that enable even smaller and more efficient components. This includes advanced installation techniques and expanding the RASMID™ product line to serve a wider range of applications. ROHM will showcase these innovations at the 15th China International Hi-Tech Fair (ELEXCON2013) from November 16 to 21, 2013, at booth number 2B62 in Shenzhen. Visitors can experience the latest advancements in micro-miniaturization firsthand. The 0402 Schottky Barrier Diode (0.4mm × 0.2mm) is a key highlight of this lineup. Designed for high-density placement in mobile devices like smartphones, it offers a significant size reduction compared to the previous 0603 model — an 82% reduction in volume. Samples are expected to be available from October 2013, with mass production starting in January 2014. Additionally, the 03015 resistor (0.3mm × 0.15mm) is another breakthrough in miniaturization, offering a 56% volume reduction over the 0402 size. It was first available as a sample in January 2012, with plans for mass production by October 2013. ROHM also continues to push boundaries with the 0201 resistor (0.2mm × 0.1mm), reducing the size by 68% compared to the 03015 model. This product is set to enter the market in October 2014. Through its RASMID™ technology, ROHM ensures that miniaturization does not compromise performance. The company maintains consistent electrical characteristics, such as forward voltage (VF), while achieving ultra-compact and lightweight designs.
