Qualcomm, a wireless chip maker, will acquire IDT's video IC business unit, including the design team, product lines, and specific assets of Hollywood Quality Video (HQV) and Frame Rate Conversion (FRC) video processor ICs; the two companies will Continue to cooperate and apply IDT's wide range of mixed signal products to Qualcomm's reference designs. The financial details of the transaction were not disclosed and are expected to be completed within a few weeks.
In Qualcomm's statement draft, IDT CEO Ted Tewksbury stated that the transaction will allow the company to focus more on signal solutions such as core clocks, interfaces, and analog intensive mixing, and business opportunities in various growth applications, such as Cloud computing, wireless infrastructure and consumer mobile devices; in addition, a new partnership with Qualcomm will be established. Steve Mollenkopf, Qualcomm's executive vice president, said that the widely acclaimed HQV technology will help Qualcomm consolidate its leadership in the field of video processing.
Mollenkopf further pointed out that the combination of HQV technology and a high-performance Snapdragon processor will improve the multimedia content display quality of smart multimedia devices such as smartphones and tablets; they also look forward to further cooperation with IDT in the future.
