Looking back at it now, 8K has become more of a "mask" and "prop" in the hands of some television brands. Whether or not 8K TVs will take off in the market is not the main issue. What's important is that it has become a narrative for certain companies to create buzz and imagine new possibilities.
TV display technology has always been a fast-moving field, where some technologies dominate for years while others fade quickly. It's safe to say that the evolution of color TV technology is one of the most dynamic in the entire home appliance industry. In recent years, as consumers seek higher clarity and better visual experiences, 4K and even 8K have become hot topics in the TV market.
However, despite over four years of development, 4K TVs haven't delivered the expected market boom. Although panel manufacturers and TV makers are pushing for profitability, demand for 4K panels remained strong in 2018, especially in larger screen sizes like 50-inch TVs. According to reports, the sales ratio of ultra-high-definition TVs is expected to reach 99% in the 60-inch and above segment this year.
Despite the rapid growth, the results may still fall short of expectations. According to data from the China Electronics Video Industry Association, by the end of this year, the 4K TV penetration rate in China is expected to reach 58%. Another report suggests that the global 4K TV penetration rate increased from 30% last year to over 40% in 2018. This shows that 4K is popular, but its full potential hasn’t been realized yet.
The fundamental reason lies in the fact that while the benefits of 4K TVs are clear, upgrading the entire industry chain takes time. From chips and display panels to video production equipment, storage, content distribution, network transmission, and terminal devices — all need to be restructured. As a result, even though 4K TVs are becoming more common, the lack of a complete 4K ecosystem makes it hard for users to fully enjoy the high-quality experience they offer.
In China, the situation is also quite challenging. There are only about 2,000 hours of true 4K content available for broadcast, and launching a real 4K channel requires at least 3,000 hours of content with over 300 hours of monthly updates. So far, no official 4K channel has been launched. Additionally, current cable TV networks in China do not support the playback of 4K digital signals.
All these factors represent significant barriers to the implementation of a 4K video ecosystem. Although the government is actively promoting top-level planning and accelerating industrial improvements, it's optimistic that 4K TV penetration could reach 71% after at least three years, eventually becoming an industry standard.
The path to 4K TV adoption is still long, let alone 8K. At the 2016 Rio Olympics, Japan’s NHK used 8K signals to broadcast the opening and closing ceremonies, making “8K†a trending topic. Along with this, 8K panels and TVs gained popularity. Companies like BOE and AU Optronics began shipping 8K panels, showing strong confidence in the trend. TV manufacturers didn’t sit idle either. Sharp was the first to launch consumer-grade 8K TVs, followed by Samsung, LG, Hisense, and Sony.
Third-party organizations predict that the share of 8K TVs in the 60-inch and larger segment will rise from 1% in 2017 to 9% in 2020. The numbers look promising, but just like with 4K, panels and TVs are only part of the equation. Can the content keep up? What about the transmission infrastructure? For now, 8K TVs still have a long way to go before they can truly gain mainstream traction.
Wire harnesses are commonly used in the electronics industry, the automotive industry, in the manufacture of construction machinery and industrial equipment, as well as in the manufacture of white goods such as washing machines and dryers, refrigerators, and other household appliances.A industrial wire harness is typically designed to simplify the manufacture of a larger component, and is designed based on the geometric and electrical requirements of the equipment it is to be installed in.
