LG.Philips announced that it has developed the first full-color active matrix OLED display using amorphous silicon technology. LG. Philips LCD is working with Universal Display to develop this technology.

The 4-inch full color flexible active matrix OLED display has 320 x 240 QVGA resolution and can reach 16.7 million colors. This display is only a little thicker than the human hair. A stainless steel foil substrate is used to ensure durability and prevent overheating, improve manufacturing processes and improve product stability.

OLED technology is considered to be the best technology for flexible displays. It enables LG.Philips LCD to develop a full-color and high-resolution flexible display with durability and reliability. Most importantly, the use of amorphous silicon backplane technology has enabled LG. Philips LCD to use its existing TFT LCD line for the production of active matrix OLEDs. LG. Philips LCD is the first company to adopt this technology.

In 2006 the company displayed a 14.1-inch monochrome electronic paper display. In 2007, it became the first to launch a color display of the same size. LG. Philips LCD exhibited a full-color flexible active matrix OLED display at the 2007 Information Display Symposium on May 20.
