Obscure: Intel no longer announced CPU multi-core Turbo data

[PConline News] Intel's Turbo Boost Technology has evolved into Turbo 3.0, which is primarily designed for single-core performance. For example, the newly released 8th Gen Core i7-8700K supports up to 4.3 GHz across six cores, while a single core can reach as high as 4.7 GHz. This makes it extremely powerful for single-threaded applications.

However, Intel recently announced that it will no longer provide multi-core Turbo frequency data. That means consumers will only see the base clock speed of 3.7 GHz and the maximum single-core turbo speed of 4.7 GHz. This lack of transparency could be misleading, especially since many people might assume all cores can boost to 4.7 GHz.

Default Core Frequency in BIOS

Before this change, users could check the default frequencies for each core in the BIOS, where they were clearly displayed. But now, after Intel’s decision, some motherboards may only show "AUTO" without showing the actual target frequencies.

This move could be seen as an attempt to mislead consumers into thinking that all cores can boost to 4.7 GHz, even though in reality, only one core can reach that speed. The performance difference between a single core and multiple cores running at higher speeds is quite significant.

Additionally, this information helps users quickly verify if their motherboard is configured correctly. Without access to these details, it becomes harder for enthusiasts to fine-tune their systems or understand what the CPU is actually capable of.

Foreign media like Guru3d have been vocal about this issue, calling it a "conspiracy theory." They argue that Intel is exaggerating its frequency limits and only highlighting the single-core boost on product packaging. Many users end up buying a processor expecting full-core performance, only to find out later that their system isn’t running at those speeds.
