A customer brought in a Changhong plasma TV model PT32600. The indicator light was flashing, and the TV wouldn't power on at all. I started by visually inspecting the unit and found no obvious signs of damage, like bulging capacitors. I checked the voltages: 5V and 16V were normal, but the VS and VA voltages were almost zero—should be around 190V and 60V respectively. Since I don’t have much experience with plasma TVs, I did some research online.
I found that two 2200μF 10V capacitors are commonly known to fail. I looked for high-temperature rated ones (105°C) but couldn’t find any. Then I came across a post suggesting that if there's no VS or VA voltage, R801 might be damaged. That turned out to be true. I found that C804 ceramic capacitor was blown, and after replacing it, the TV worked fine. Here are some photos from the repair:
Common issues for Changhong PT32600 not booting include:
- F101 fuse is blown, usually due to a faulty PFC circuit MOSFET (Q602 or Q603, SD20N60). Replace with the same part.
- If the indicator light doesn’t turn on twice, shorting pins 2 and 3 of P814 (5V/STBY) can restore VS and VA output. R801 failure is common here.
- Black screen with sound: Check the power board’s 5V filter capacitors. If they’re bulged, replace them. This fixed two units I’ve seen so far.
- If the TV boots but immediately protects, clean the PFC and AC detection circuits. Remove resistors and scrape off old glue. Consider replacing R816 with a 0.1Ω resistor.
- PT32600 black screen issue: Sometimes the Y board may appear fine on test, but after a few days, the user reports no sound. Checking the VS voltage and adjusting the ADJ potentiometer helped stabilize the power supply.
- PT32700 black screen with sound: Faulty FS3 and C151 on the Y board caused the issue. Replacing these components restored normal function.
- PT32600 has a dim screen with ghosting: After checking the Y board, the X board was found to have a broken FL3. Replacing the X board improved performance.
- Another maintenance example: When the TV wouldn’t start, I found that the first pin of P3 socket on the Y board should have 15V but had only 100Ω resistance to ground. Replacing C151 and F4 fixed the issue.
- For PT32700 secondary power supply protection: VS voltage rises to 190V then drops to 0. VA voltage also drops when rising to 6V. Replacing IC901 (CQ0565) resolved the problem.
- Power supply component replacement: Q852 (FQPF9N25C) can be replaced with 5N65A.
