According to a survey conducted by Mobile MarkeTIng Data Lab in October 2016, more than one-third of Japanese Internet users want to experience VR (Virtual Reality) technology outdoors, and nearly two-thirds of users want to be at home. 34.3% of respondents said that they are more willing to experience VR technology elsewhere than in their own living space. Nearly 30% of these people list cinemas as places they are interested in using VR technology.
Another 30% indicated that they want to experience VR technology at the event venue. Almost the same number of respondents said they wanted to use VR when watching sports events outdoors.
Many Japanese consumers have doubts about VR. But there is also some level of excitement, while: 40% of consumers are excited about buying PlayStaTIon VR.
But the main obstacle to VR promotion is the lack of understanding of the technology: According to Mobile JustSystems survey, in May 2016, more than 40% of men between the ages of 50 and 69 did not even know what VR technology is. Men are more likely than women to be interested in VR. It is worth noting that although men between the ages of 15 and 19 know that the proportion of the VR system is greater, they are interested in VR compared to those of any age group below 60 years old.
