Diodes Releases New AL8860 Constant Current DC

Diodes has introduced the AL8860 Hysteresis Mode DC-DC Buck LED Driver, which is designed to efficiently drive a single LED or multiple LEDs in series from a higher voltage source relative to the LED voltage. With its integrated MOSFETs, the product offers low BOM cost solutions for low voltage industrial and automotive LED lighting applications, including lighting signs and backlights, as well as LED retrofits for replacing low voltage halogen lamps.

Figure: Diodes Releases Constant Current DC-DC LED Driver with Low Standby Power Mode, Delivering Up to 40W of Output Power

Operating from a 4.5V to 40V input supply, the AL8860 can deliver up to 1A of output current in a TSOT25 package and up to 1.5A in a higher heat dissipation MSOP8-EP package. The AL8860 is capable of delivering up to 40W of output power, depending on the supply voltage and external components.

In addition to the integrated 40V/0.2Ω power MOSFET power switch, the device also integrates a high-side output current sense circuit that allows a single external resistor to be used to set the nominal average output current. Deep dimming (0% to 100%) can be done by using the DC voltage or the CTRL pin of the PWM signal. The same pin also implements a soft-start operation, and the time is adjusted by an external capacitor. Applying a voltage of 0.2V or less to this pin will turn off the output and put the device into a power-saving standby state. (Compile / Allen Yin)

Sapphire Ball Lens

The composition of sapphire is alumina, which is blue due to the trace element titanium (Ti4+) or iron (Fe2+). It belongs to the trigonal crystal system, the crystal shape is often cylindrical, short column, plate, etc., and the geometry is mostly granular or dense. Transparent to translucent, glass luster. The refractive index is 1.76-1.77, the birefringence is 0.008, and the dichroism is strong. Heterogeneous body. Sometimes has a special optical effect
The ball lens is a very useful optical element used to improve the signal coupling between the fiber, the transmitter and the detector. In addition, it is also suitable for applications such as endoscopes, barcode scanning, pre-processed materials for Aspheric Lenses and sensors. The ball lens is made of a single glass substrate and can focus or output parallel light, depending on the geometry of the input source. Hemispherical lenses are also very common, and are used interchangeably with (full) spherical lenses when the physical constraints of the application require a more compact design.
