September 17, 2015 - Lenze, Germany, added a pick-and-place robot programming module to the FAST programming software to incorporate robot functions into the drive solution, making it easy to determine parameters like a single-axis motion.
Most gantry robots use a PLC to control the positioning of the drive for single axis operation. The gantry robot system is mainly used for stacking and moving wood, metal, plastic, glass or other materials. The FAST module effectively replaces the PLC-controlled gantry with sequential motion commands that are executed by specific tasks.
Proper path planning means designing more energy-efficient, faster-operating robots with smaller drives.
Based on PLCopen Part 4 for all spindles and auxiliary axes and by using the IEC61131 programming environment, FAST software technology allows for additional drive task integration, such as drives for upstream and downstream conveyors using the same controller and inverter.
The kinematics model simplifies the steps required to integrate the robot into the automation of the entire system. Even complex drive systems that require multi-axis coordination can be programmed quickly. By simplifying the design process, the FAST module allows design engineers to devote more time to optimizing machine value-added features.
In addition to Delta 2, Delta 3, curved arms and SCARA robots, Lenze offers different integrated FAST modules for different types of gantry robots. Each FAST application module comes with a visualization system for testing.
