Google has officially announced on Thursday that the Google Lens visual search feature will soon be available in the Google Photos app for iOS users. The latest version of the app, 3.19, which is now live, already includes this functionality, and the full rollout to all regions is expected within the next week.
Launched back in May, Google Lens is seen as a major step forward in how we interact with search. Unlike traditional keyword-based searches, it allows users to point their camera at an object and get instant information. For example, if you scan a book cover, Google Lens can show you where to buy it, along with details like the publisher, author, and user reviews. If you point it at a painting, it can identify the artist and provide background on the artwork.
In February, Google expanded the capabilities of Google Lens, aiming to make it more accessible to a wider audience. Aparna Chennapragada, a project manager at Google Lens, shared her thoughts: “Product development relies heavily on algorithms, data, and user feedback. We need to find the right entry points, but our main goal is to bring this experience to more users and devices.â€
This update marks another step in Google’s vision of making visual search a seamless part of daily life, helping users discover and understand the world around them more easily. With the iOS release, more people will now have access to this powerful tool, further solidifying Google Lens as a key player in the future of search technology.
