BorisFX has launched MochaVR version 5.6, introducing enhanced support for 360-degree stereo workflows. This latest update builds on the company's previous release of MochaVR, a powerful plugin designed to bring high-end visual effects into the world of 360° content creation. The new version offers improved tools specifically tailored for working with stereoscopic 3D formats.
MochaVR now supports a wide range of 360° formats, including top/bottom, side-by-side, and dual stream, making it easier for creators to work in stereo 3D. The updated software also includes advanced image stabilization improvements to the reorientation module, helping reduce VR-induced disorientation. With this release, users can perform motion tracking, masking, object removal, and horizontal stabilization more efficiently.
Ross Shain, Chief Product Officer at BorisFX, said, “Many VR creators are now aiming for stereo 3D to deliver a more immersive experience. However, working in these formats can be complex and time-consuming during post-production.†He added that the new Planar Tracking Analysis "Binocular View" feature in MochaVR 5.6 helps address parallax issues, simplifying tasks like camera removal or stable dithering. Adobe users can now track, mask, or clean footage directly on stitched mono or stereo 360° lenses, significantly reducing manual keyframe work.
The update also expands compatibility with a variety of 3D 360° cameras, such as Vuze, Kandao Obsidian, Samsung Round, Nokia Ozo, ZCam, Google Jump, and more. MochaVR has already gained traction among leading companies in the 360° video space, including The New York Times VR, Felix & Paul, Ryot, DigitalDomain, Dragons, and LightSailVR.
