Bluetooth and Wi-Fi have already been widely adopted in vehicles, but they are primarily used for infotainment purposes. Cellular networks are also being used in eCall systems, which are now mandatory in some regions like Europe. However, wireless communication is becoming a core component of future keyless entry systems and remote services, such as paying for fuel or receiving deliveries at your car.
Consumers are using smartphones more than ever as both storage devices and tools for remote car management, like adjusting climate control settings from afar. With the rise of car-sharing, wireless technologies have opened up new possibilities. Digital keys are now being developed, allowing smartphone apps to unlock and control different vehicles, reducing the need for physical keys and lowering costs for users.
However, implementing these new wireless solutions comes with challenges. For instance, cars often lack space for additional antennas, and ensuring security against hacking and theft remains a major concern.
