Entangled headphone jack? Huawei finally hits the knife on Mate 10 Pro

[PConline News] Huawei recently unveiled the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro. The standard Mate 10 features a 16:9 screen ratio and includes front-mounted fingerprint recognition, while the Mate 10 Pro comes with an 18:9 full-screen display and rear fingerprint sensor. Apart from these differences, recent reports from foreign media have revealed another design variation between the two models—this time, the Mate 10 Pro has done away with the 3.5mm headphone jack, unlike the Mate 10, which still retains it.

According to Phonearena, a well-known international tech site, Huawei's official page for the Mate 10 Pro confirmed that the 3.5mm headphone jack has been removed. Instead, audio is now output through the USB Type-C port. The Mate 10 Pro also supports advanced audio codecs like aptX, aptX HD, and LDAC, as well as DP1.2 video output via USB-C. This move has sparked some confusion among users, but Huawei has included a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter and a USB-C headset in the box to ease the transition.

As of now, the Mate 10 is priced at 699 euros (approximately 5,437 yuan) in Europe, while the Mate 10 Pro costs 799 euros (around 6,213 yuan). The BNM version of the Mate 10 will be available on October 20th. If everything goes smoothly, it will be widely distributed on the launch day, and the price is expected to be significantly higher than the European release price.

Overall, the Mate 10 series continues to impress with its design and performance, while the decision to remove the 3.5mm jack highlights a growing trend in the smartphone industry toward more streamlined and modern connectivity solutions.
