Hong Kong 3,300 companies and buildings respond to "Earth Hour" lights off

According to reports, the once-a-year global light-out activity “Earth Hour” will be held on the 31st from 8.30pm to 9:30pm, when Hong Kong’s 3,300 companies and buildings will be turned off for one hour, including the Legislative Council Complex, government headquarters, and international Financial Center, Exchange Square, Yee Wo Building, Cheung Kong Group Center, Cultural Center, Convention and Exhibition Center, Peak Place and other landmarks in Hong Kong, and Hong Kong’s tallest Global Trade Plaza will participate in the lights-out activities for the first time in 2012; academics, all universities and more than 340 Primary and secondary schools will also participate.

Together with Hong Kong, there will be 147 countries and regions in the world in 2012. A total of more than 5,400 cities will respond to lights-out for one hour, including the Beijing Forbidden City, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Buckingham Palace in London, the Golden Gate Bridge in the United States, Table Mountain in South Africa, and Jesus in Brazil Hill and the Australian Sydney Opera House and other world landmarks, and the New World Group's nearly 100 offices in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Dalian and other places, shopping malls and department stores will light out support for this event.

The World Wide Fund for Nature, which initiated the activity, said that the number of companies and buildings participating in Hong Kong this year has been the largest ever, which is 100 more than the previous year.
