Thailand's 4 departments jointly promote LED energy-saving light bulbs

According to Thailand’s “World News” report on June 17th, Thailand’s Mainland Power Bureau, National Highway Office, Rural Roads Office and Promotion Administration Office promote the use of LED bulbs to replace street lamps, high-voltage sodium lamps (Sodium) and fluorescent bulbs in public places. (FluorEScent) plans to achieve 50-70% power savings each year.

According to Nalong, the director of the Mainland Power Bureau, the four departments will jointly promote the most suitable solution for retrofit bulbs and plan to introduce private companies to participate in the project. Because LED bulbs are more expensive, they each require about 20,000 baht. The savings in electricity costs can be turned into private company income. This project is planned to be implemented in 2011. It is tentatively planned that 16,000 LED bulbs will be retrofitted in succession, with an estimated investment of 300 million baht, and the rest will follow.

At present, the Mainland Power Bureau of Thailand is responsible for arranging and selling electricity to 74 governments across the country, and is responsible for street lighting and lighting in public places. The LED bulbs that will be used by the Mainland Power Bureau will be eco-friendly bulbs, saving 50-70% of the electricity in the energy-saving aspect of the original bulb. And the use of LED bulbs is five times longer than the original bulb, and each bulb can be used for 50,000 hours, or 10 years. The light emitted by the LED bulbs is stronger, making the vision more clear, thus promoting the safety of driving and the reduction of crime. If we can reconstruct 1 million LED lamps, we will reduce the annual electricity consumption by 4.5 billion kWh, which is equivalent to one-third of the electricity generated by the power station of the Srinakarin Reservoir in Kanchanaburi. And it can reduce 260,000 tons of CO2 emissions every year.
