South African A/D conversion deadline postponed to 2019

The African National Congress (ANC) meeting postponed the deadline for the government to complete the analog conversion of broadcasting technology until June 2019. In accordance with the initial deadline set by the ITU, the analog-to-digital conversion should be completed in June 2015. However, due to the dispute between the government and broadcasters on whether digital signals should be encrypted, South Africa did not complete the analog-digital conversion before this deadline. In October 2016, South Africa started the work of closing analog signals. At one time, it delayed the analog-to-digital conversion deadline until December 2018. ANC said: "The meeting set the deadline for the government to fully realize (not part of) the conversion of analog signals to digital signals as June 2019," and stated that there will be no more grace for this date.
