After Pokémon GO bursts, Google has also developed AR games?

In Google's recently announced recruitment announcement, it was discovered that its Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP) division is recruiting a large number of game experts and is planning to develop a new social gaming game or to add more AR game elements.

The project seems to be still in its early stages, as the ATAP department is looking for creative directors and back-office and mobile game engineers whose job responsibilities are to plan, design, and implement services that help manage the massive user data for multi-user games. Google hopes that developers with more than eight years of relevant work experience can develop "a cross-platform, shared server development framework to support large-scale social engagement activities based on shared games."

Google did not pay attention to the game field before. It may not be a wise move to spin off Niantic Labs. Niantic Labs was first established in Google in 2010, and later developed a game based on Google Maps data called "Ingress", which was later delisted when Google restructured at the end of 2015. Less than a year after leaving Google, Niantic’s first game, Pokémon Go, which was not owned by Google, was a hit.

The ATAP department also hosts some very famous projects, including Jacquard for the development of smart fabrics, Soli using radar for contactless gesture control, and Spotlight Stories for creating VR short films. Tango has “graduated” from the lab. This is a 3D map tool developed by Google that allows any mobile phone to have AR functionality and rich AR gameplay.

A software engineer at ATAP writes on his LinkedIn page: "Google develops gaming devices? Who would have thought of this kind of thing? But this is true, this is what I am doing right now."
