Microsoft can charge 430 million U.S. dollars for Android this year

Although Google never recognized the presence of Microsoft in the Android system, some of Microsoft's patents do involve the basic level of Linux and Android. Manufacturers such as Samsung, HTC, and LG have already signed a patent licensing agreement with Microsoft for each production. Android devices pay Microsoft a certain royalty fee. According to information, HTC pays US$5 for every Android device it produces.

Microsoft has never disclosed this fee collection standard. According to a recent report from BI, Microsoft charges Barnes & Noble a patent fee of US$5-15 per device (based on the Android system based on the Nook system). The income of the pen is huge. Another data show that in 2011 Microsoft received more royalties from Linux/Android than Windows Phone.

Analysts at Gartner expect that global Android device shipments will reach 860 million units by 2013, assuming that Microsoft can charge half of them for an average of $1 each, which is $430 million in revenue. If the vendors pay the $5 royalty for each HTC, the revenue will be as high as $2.15 billion.

According to BI's report, Microsoft is registering patents every day. John Weresh, general manager of Microsoft’s patent operations department, stated that due to his inability to complete a huge amount of work on patent applications, they have outsourced their patent applications in the United States to an Indian IT company.
