On November 26th, the author learned from the Shanxi Development and Reform Commission that Shanxi Province took the lead in formulating four local standards for Shanxi Province, such as “Road Lighting LED Lightsâ€, “Road Tunnel Lighting LED Lightsâ€, “Commercial Lighting LED Lights†and “Industrial Lighting LED Lightsâ€. And in mid-November, it passed the national expert group evaluation and was rated as the leading level of domestic provincial and municipal standards. This will lay a good foundation for promoting the pilot demonstration of LED in our province.
LED is the abbreviation of LED in English, it can directly convert electricity into light, so it is also called semiconductor lighting. LEDs lead the new trend of the international lighting industry with its excellent energy saving, environmental protection, long life and easy maintenance. In theory, LEDs are 90% more energy efficient than incandescent lamps and 50% more energy efficient than fluorescent lamps. Special investigations show that China's lighting power consumption is more than 300 billion kWh per year. The replacement of incandescent lamps with LEDs or partial replacement of fluorescent lamps can save one-third of lighting power, equivalent to one year's power generation in the Three Gorges Project.
In order to promote the healthy, orderly and rapid development of the LED industry, from July 2008, the province started the research and drafting of the series of LED lighting product quality evaluation standards, which was completed in August this year. It provides an important reference for the development of national standards for semiconductor lighting and the comprehensive promotion of LED series lighting products throughout the country.
