AnalogicTech Introduces New White LED Driver AAT3176

For the featurephone handset market, AnalogicTech has introduced a new line of flash and white LED drivers, the AAT3176 flash driver, and the AAT3351 high-efficiency LED driver, which helps handset designers extend battery life and reduce product footprint.

The AAT3176 flash driver IC operates from a 2.7V to 5.5V input and provides up to 500mA of output current. The dual-mode charging pump maximizes power efficiency by supporting 1X and 2X operation and can be programmed in 16 unique steps via AnalogicTech's patented S2Cwire (Simple Serial Control) interface. It is the smallest package of the industry's 500mA flash driver IC - 20% smaller than its peers - the AAT3176 allows designers to create fairly small camera lighting solutions.

To achieve maximum design flexibility and minimize programming time, the AAT3176 uses individual external resistors to set maximum flash and film mode current. To protect the integrity of the device, the drive has a thermal management system including open and short circuit protection and an automatic soft start circuit. The load disconnect feature extends battery life by disconnecting the load during shutdown and reduces quiescent current to less than 1.0μA.

The AAT3351 is a high efficiency charging pump that can drive 4 white LEDs at 30mA each. The two-group mode fractional charge pump automatically switches between 1X and 1.5X modes based on input voltage, LED forward voltage, and load current for maximum efficiency. 1MHz switching frequency helps reduce external component size to the nearest school

To smoothly switch between brightness levels, this component uses AnalogicTech's S2Cwire serial digital interface to enable, disable, and set current to one of 32 levels. The LED current output accuracy is +10% and the LED current matching is 3%. The AAT3351 also adds an automatic soft-start circuit and built-in short-circuit protection.
